Can the self survive isolation? mind body and soul, think about it.

What is the 'id', that instinctual sense of self our desires, can one exist purely in the self or are we innately designed to be part of the bigger extrinsic society.  During this extended international period of #SelfIsolation amidst the #COVID19pandemic one can truly begin to reflect a lot on ones self.  For the true Introvert this period may be a refreshing time of self rejuvenation a time of reflection, energised by the peace, isolation and space they have been afforded, even though temporarily, the 'Ego' prevails.  All too often though, self reflection can turn into self criticism, self loathing, self destructive behaviours or thoughts. For some however, the opposite is true, they become more self fulfilled in their own sense of knowledge, they become self important, self edifying, developing a self grandiose perspective on their own lives and sense of self, this may even become Narcissistic in nature, hence the 'Super-Ego' prevails. Therein lies the pr

Does the jigsaw of Life ever make you question.

Image
Have you ever asked yourself "why?!" That is in any specific situation or current circumstance in your life you have questioned, what the... is going on and why me, why now, why why why?. If you haven't then Who or What are you? Donald Trump maybe?!.  Seriously though we all have periods like this in our lives.  Sometimes they appear to be random events/circumstances that are effecting us, occasionally they are a direct result of someone else's actions or decisions, and sometimes they are a consequence of our own choices (good or bad), actions, or words. I have often asked the same question myself, and as I have gotten older and entered my 40's I have learnt that these are all seasons in my life and I have survived thus far. Admittedly, there were some touch and go situations and circumstances.  I was asked by a Psychiatric Nurse what are my regrets or do I regret any of my choices, actions etc.   I will add at this point that I am deliberately using the wor

A simple way to get more toilet paper, be selfish.

I find it interesting how in a post millennial society, where one is encouraged to be an individual, a large number of people still adhere to pack mentality.  We see examples of this every day when one person begins crossing a road, several others follow etc. One person sees a bargain in a shop and soon word of mouth gets around. One person dies from toilet roll starvation and soon the nation is in fear for its life, in case it starves from toilet paper hunger.  In all seriousness, why do we panic buy? Why is it those with money and poses the most starve and restrict the most needy. The elderly who lives on a pension, having saved the nation from occupation now can't eat because the neighbours have gone in their cars and bought all the bread, flour, pasta etc etc. Before the pensioner has managed to catch the bus to the same shop.  People talk about "war time conditions", but ask those who have lived in such times, they will tell you a different story. One of neighbours l

When does the sun shine? light in the darkness.

Image
There are times in our lives when the sun shines in the sky yet we feel as though we are in the darkness, or is that just me?.  Probably not!  Just look at the World today and there only seems to be darkness.  Countries testing weapons of mass destruction, famines, children living on streets, families fighting in civil wars, and there is #Covid -19. Yet amid these darkened events, where as individuals we feel hopeless and question ourselves, our role, purpose or significance not only in this World but also in our own communities.  However,  we matter, we have a purpose, You and I can make the sun shine. Only the other day I was watching a documentary a tour of Cuba and Haiti.  In Haiti many people live in a beautiful island, with magnificent natural surroundings, Yet since the earthquake they live in poverty, having to buy water daily, with what little they have,  just to survive. Many of the young children/youth live on the streets, not in cardboard boxes, tents, or sleeping bags,
